Re: Eyes,Mind,Sensory Deprivation.

Wayne,

We've talked a lot about how the mind plays tricks on us while we
observe...particularly during the slow spring months. The best thing to do
to reduce these mind things from interfering is getting some sleep...at least
2 or 3 hours sleep prior to your observing. You'll be amazed how the number
of illusory's will diminish then. Sometimes when there's no major showers
active, and I wasn't able to sleep prior to my observing attemps, I find it
helpful to observe for an hour, then roll over in the sleeping bag for a half
hour nap and then observe for another hour. Just repeat this process. It
really helps. I can also tell you that the more active the sky is...the
easier it becomes to observe with less difficulties. Thus, major showers
makes things come alive. For each meteor you see, this tends to create a few
moments of alertness with expectation for the next one. Usually on active
nights, you will see another meteor to recharge this feeling before the
previous effect wears off. So Folks, Expect good seeing nights with better
activity from sporadics and lots of minor showers etc. to begin around mid
july. Only problem this year is that there is a full moon near the end of
July, but that is the traditional beginning for good observing activity.
