RE: (meteorobs) Fireball Magnitudes
Oops, that one got away from me. As I was saying:
As someone stated here a while back, many inexperianced observers will
overestimate the brightness of a fireball. This is understandable, but
it really isn't easy to estimate if it is brighter than -5 or so because
there isn't much to compare it to. If the Moon isn't up, all you can do
is estimate from the memory of the Moon's brightness. The Full Moon is
-12, but the Half Moon depends on which half I believe.
My question is, if the Waxing Half Moon is about -10, is the Waning Half
Moon -9? Because of the distribution of the Lunar Mare, the Waning Half
Moon is somewhat fainter than than the waxing half moon.
