(meteorobs) Mars and meteors
Hey, Jonathan, sorry to hear you've been sick!
I've been watching Mars each time I get out to observe with the big scope: lots of folks have, I'm sure. I guess they just consider it even more off-topic than Hale-Bopp, so they don't post their Mars observations to 'meteorobs'. I'll send you some of my obs from the past month or so (just three or four :<), and hope you get to see Mars yourself soon! Should be starting to show some featuring in your scope by the time you get that Barlow!
PS to all: On a related (meteor) topic, I never did hear for sure: are either of the US Mars probes equipped to observe atmospheric events like meteors? Would they be trained in one area consistently enough (and be sensitive enough) to detect a shower if one occurred? This is small potatoes for the planetary folks, but I was just curious... The inner shepherd of the Asteroid Belt seems like prime territory for some rich showers.
Clear skies all (whether salmon or blue!),
Lew
