(meteorobs) Observation October 1/2 2000
October 1/2, observing 3 hours teff at Casselman. After a mild day,
the sky was hazy and there was ground level fog. Fortunately, the
Casselman quarry is quite dry and seems to keep the heaviest fog at
bay. The sky was not as good as usual but it still averaged LM=6.1,
so I settled for meteor observing. I signed-on an hour before local
midnight. I was looking 80 degrees high, closer to zenith to get the
least fog.
My total is 33 meteors from which 28 sporadics, 3 October Arietids
(anthelions) and 2 Delta Aurigids were seen. Nothing really unusual.
A couple of bright meteors were seen, but no fireballs.
The highlight was a yellow/white Oct Arietid of magn -1 in the
north-east. At 5:09 UT, I saw 2 sporadics going different directions
appearing only 1 sec apart!
