Makes great sense to me, in fact, I had already intuitively
suspected it. The distance from the eye to the lens (with glasses) will
vary slightly over a given period. With contacts it will always be the
same. Pierre, you described my experience in switching between the two
almost exactly! In fact, I couldn't think of any better way (including
eye charts) to realize the difference between glasses and contacts than
going out under the stars!

The answer may lie in the optical precision of the glasses.
Perhaps it would require a higher grade of optics than most
manufacturers are willing to attempt to sell. Just my guess.

No doubt this can be a problem, Mark, but VERY easy to overcome.
A: Give your eyes a rest from the contacts by wearing glasses (and
taking a nap, which is always good to do before an observing session) a
few hours before the observing session.
B: clean the darn things right before you go out to observe. Then
they will be VERY comfortable. And clearer!
C: have some rewetting drops handy in your observing kit.
