Re: (meteorobs) Aids for night vision? II

By the way, back in 1993, while on an archaeological excavation in France, I
empirically determined that alcohol before observing indeed is not a good idea.
After a few glasses of wine (hey: you'r in France! No escape!) in a fine
restaurant I settled for a short observing session. The effect of the wine was
odd. No, I didn't start to see double meteors or start to miss meteors: what
happened was that my meteor magnitude estimates blew off track. I made a remark
initially to the then visual director, noting my apparent alcohol promillage
and "ha! no odd meteor numbers! A bit of alcohol is no problem!". To which he
remarked: "Oh no? Your average sporadic magnitude: +1.8". Ooops!
