(meteorobs) Reminiscences of Novembers past

Hi Everyone,
I have been following the messages about minor radiants (compared to the
Leonids) in Novembers past. Huan Meng's original message made me recall
that I saw what I thought was a minor radiant too. It took me awhile to
search my records, but I did find my observation in 1996.
Although I was not plotting at the time of observation, I made careful
mental notes about the sky location of two non-Leonid fireballs I saw.
Those two were the brightest members of ten meteors which I believed came
from RA= 150 degrees and Dec= +40 degrees. This is where the two fireball
paths intersected. This location is only about 20 degrees north in location
from the Leonid's radiant. This reality plus the fact that I was not
plotting meteors during the observation both make me a bit hesitant about
claiming a "new" radiant. However, I did exercise some care during the
observation to ensure that flight lines of the non-LEOs were unlikely to be
from the LEO radiant.
So, for what it is worth, there is another possible radiant to check for
this November (besides Huan Meng's). This will be a great challenge,
however, given the expected storm rates predicted for the Americas and for
the western Pacific. If we are overwhelmed with the numbers of LEOs, it
will probably be impossible to divide our concentration for competing minor
showers. Of course, anyone who can videorecord will have a unique
opportunity to detect other possible radiants.
   Sincerely,
   Richard Taibi
