One thing I neglected to mention in my email, if your going to use a
camcorder to record the output screen of an image intensifier make sure it
has manual control of shutter speed and aperture. Auto cameras don't
maintain photometric accuracy very well as they adjust to the brightness of
the image on the screen. This is important especially if recording spectra.
Another thing that needs mentioning is the capabilities of the computer
video capture board you intend to use. High resolution boards, more than
8-bit, are expensive but should be considered for high quality image
capture. Also, a single chip ccd colour camera only has 1/3 of the
information of a black and white camera as colour requires RGB to produce
the normal colour image. The screen of an image intensifier is only one
colour so more data is collected with a b&w camera. These are things I
overlooked when I set up my first system for meteor spectroscopy.
